2011 Summer Da Yeh Oolong - Tea Masters

This was a surprising find and I’m very glad to have purchased it. Da Yeh is a large leaf varietal and this is a fully oxidized version, producing a dark amber infusion.

The leaves are long and twisted and almost black, although in good light you can still see the hint of green. The aroma is very sweet and fruity. Immediately upon hitting the warmed pot aromas of peach and plum began to emerge in a dramatic fashion.

The taste is very rich and sweet, very similar to a Sun Moon Lake No. 18, but without the aftertaste of mint that characterizes that style. The aftertaste on this tea is just smooth and lingering.

I think we easily got 5 infusions from this pot. You can see Petr Novak’s tea jar in the background which I used to air the tea before we infused it, and the yixing pot I used for the infusion is dedicated to dark oolongs.

A very impressive dark tea.
